SPOKANE, Wash. — A violent altercation erupted outside a Spokane residence early Wednesday morning, involving two men armed with hammers and another man wielding a knife. Homeowner Elvir Donlic, who awoke to the chaos alongside his wife, captured the disturbing scene on his home security system.
According to Donlic, the encounter began just steps from his front door. Fearing for their safety, Donlic and his wife refrained from intervening directly. “I was scared. All we could do was call the police,” Donlic recounted.
The security footage revealed a tense dispute, with the hammer-bearing individuals accusing the knife-wielding man of previously threatening a family member’s life and initiating an earlier confrontation. While one of the men with a hammer acted as the primary aggressor, his counterpart seemed to attempt to deescalate the situation, urging to stop the attack.
The situation escalated when the aggressor hurled a rock at the man with the knife, knocking him to the ground. Subsequently, the aggressor hit the fallen man with his hammer multiple times as he lay defenseless in a fetal position.
The aggressors fled the scene when Donlic’s wife opened the front door, a moment that seemed to spook them into retreat. “She can be scary too,” Donlic noted, hinting at his wife’s formidable presence.
By the time law enforcement arrived, the assailants had vanished. The victim, significantly injured during the assault, was transported by the police for medical attention. In response to the incident, Donlic reported the encounter to the authorities. Both the Spokane Police Department and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the emergency call, with Donlic officially filing his report with the latter.
Investigations traced the origins of the conflict back to a local homeless camp situated along the north bank of the Spokane River. Authorities are actively searching for the two men responsible for the assault, currently considered suspects in what is being classified as a felony assault case, according to a spokesperson from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
As the investigation continues, local law enforcement is appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the suspects, stressing the importance of community assistance in resolving such violent incidents swiftly.
This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in the area, with community leaders and local agencies calling for increased vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities. Ensuring the safety of Spokane residents remains a top priority, exemplified by the prompt response and ongoing efforts following this violent encounter.
