The girl’s mother, who was also caught in the surf, managed to return to safety thanks to the efforts of an off-duty lifeguard.
Record-breaking rainfall swept through Southern California on Saturday, with areas reporting totals that surpassed previous highs dating back to historic flooding in 1952. Downtown Los Angeles and several regional airports, including Long Beach, Burbank, and Santa Barbara, experienced unprecedented rainfall for the date, intensifying the concerns for flooding across the region.
