20-Year Prison Sentence for Latoya Dale in Covington Robbery and Murder Case

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Latoya Dale has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for her involvement in the robbery and murder of a 60-year-old Covington man in 2022. This comes after Dale was one of two individuals arrested for the death of Virgil Stewart, who was shot and killed on the 15th Street Bridge while walking home from work in September 2022. Dale faced charges of murder and robbery, and was arrested shortly before Zachary Ron Holden was also charged in the murder.

Holden was ultimately sentenced to life in prison for the murder charge he faced, along with an additional 20 years for the robbery charge. According to Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders, Holden and Dale executed a “strong-arm robbery” on Stewart, who had just $6 on him when he was shot and robbed. Sanders called the incident “absolutely tragic” and stated that Stewart was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Following the murder, investigators were able to identify a suspicious vehicle believed to be fleeing from the scene after reviewing Ring doorbell camera footage from the area for over a month. This ultimately led police to apprehend Dale. The case serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of senseless violence and the impact it has on communities.

In July 2023, Holden pleaded guilty to the charges and received his sentencing. Both individuals will now serve time for their actions related to Stewart’s tragic death. The community seeks closure and justice as they remember the life of Virgil Stewart.
