21-year-old Michigan hospital shooter was angry he wasn’t invited to funeral and urinates on funeral program

TROY, MI – In a dramatic turn of events at a Michigan hospital, alleged gunfire stemming from a personal grievance between two employees led to a temporary lockdown, heightening fears of an active shooter scenario.

Robert Paljusevic, 21, has been charged with assault with intent to murder along with several firearm offenses after police say he shot a co-worker at the Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital. Authorities in Troy responded to a call about an “active shooter” early Thursday morning but quickly identified the situation as an isolated incident involving two hospital staff members.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found a 25-year-old man wounded in the arm by gunfire in the hospital’s parking structure. He received immediate medical attention on-site.

The subsequent investigation revealed that the victim had been entering the garage when Paljusevic allegedly fired at least five rounds, striking both him and his vehicle.

A police investigation suggested that a falling-out over a funeral invitation escalated the hostility between the two men. Reports indicate that Paljusevic was upset after not being invited to the family-only funeral of his co-worker’s father. This incident, according to family members, exacerbated tensions, as Paljusevic, described as having a “short fuse,” was perceived as overly possessive.

Apparently, Paljusevic attended the public viewing and, in a moment of frustration, verbally confronted the deceased, expressing his anger over the snub. Following the funeral, he reportedly escalated his actions by sending a video to the victim, showing himself desecrating funeral pamphlets, alongside a veiled threat hinting at possible violence.

In a court session on Sunday, details emerged about Paljusevic’s two-year tenure at the hospital and his subsequent arrest in nearby Macomb County just hours after the shooting. He is being held without bond in the Oakland County Jail.

The incident has left the hospital’s community in shock, grappling with the abrupt violence in a setting dedicated to healing. Meanwhile, the legal proceedings will determine Paljusevic’s next steps amid these serious charges.
