MIAMI TOWNSHIP, OH – A 24-year-old woman from Ohio has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after fatally striking her mother with a vehicle and pinning her against a garage wall, authorities said.
Anna Millette learned her fate Tuesday in Clermont County after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. She initially faced a murder charge in connection with the June 2024 death of her mother, 64-year-old Joyce Millette.
According to court documents, police were called to a home on Deerhaven Court on June 15 following reports of a domestic disturbance between Anna Millette and her mother. Officers arrived to find the elder Millette trapped between a car and the garage wall, the vehicle having crashed forcefully into the structure and partially destroying it.
Officers attempted to intervene, but Anna Millette tried to evade capture, reversing the car and momentarily knocking down one officer before fleeing the scene. She led police on a chase that ended with a crash on Interstate 275 near Loveland. Officers subdued Millette using a Taser and took her into custody. Both she and her mother were transported to the hospital, but Joyce Millette was later pronounced dead.
During sentencing, Richard Millette, Anna’s father, addressed the court, expressing sorrow and urging understanding. He explained that his late wife had spent years seeking mental health treatment for Anna, describing significant challenges accessing consistent care. According to him, the failure to secure lasting support for Anna’s mental health played a role in the events that led up to the tragedy.
Anna Millette addressed the court as well, expressing remorse and describing the incident as the worst event of her life. She stated that she had been experiencing acute mental distress at the time and that her mother did not deserve to die.
Prosecutors argued that Anna Millette had stopped taking her prescribed medication prior to the incident and noted she was on probation for an earlier incident involving her hitting her former boyfriend with a vehicle. The court agreed that Millette had a history of disregarding medical advice and was aware of possible consequences, emphasizing the importance of her decisions in the lead-up to the fatal event.
This was not the first time Anna Millette had been involved in a violent vehicular incident. In May 2022, officers responded to reports that she intentionally struck her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend with her car in the same Miami Township neighborhood. The victim suffered a severe head injury. Millette was convicted of felonious assault relating to that incident and previously served jail time following a guilty plea.
Body camera footage from the June 2024 incident captured the frantic scene as officers attempted to pull Millette from the vehicle. The video showed her ignoring police commands, backing up the car, and escaping before being apprehended after the chase.
Both officers sustained minor injuries during the confrontation in the garage. Authorities cited these past and present events as evidence of Millette’s ongoing disregard for safety and the law.
Court records indicate that probation had been imposed for the earlier assault, and Millette was expected to comply with mental health treatment and medication requirements, which prosecutors say she failed to do prior to the fatal incident involving her mother.
Millette’s prison sentence reflects the seriousness of her actions and the circumstances surrounding both cases, the court said.
