MIAMI GARDENS, FL – A Florida woman faces a second-degree murder charge after allegedly shooting and killing her husband during a domestic dispute that also left her teenage son injured.
Authorities in Miami Gardens responded to a call about gunfire at a residence on Friday morning, where they found Shaneeka Daschell Harris, 39, had been involved in a violent confrontation with her husband, Aaron Swatts. Police say the conflict escalated until Harris allegedly opened fire inside the home, leading to Swatts’ death and injuring her 15-year-old son, who was shot in the thigh.
Officers arrived at the scene around 6:40 a.m. following a report of shots fired inside the home on NW 46th Avenue. Upon their arrival, they directed occupants inside the home to come out. Harris’s unharmed son, identified as “J.T.,” emerged first and informed police of his injured brother, who suffered a gunshot wound.
After exiting the house, Harris told officers that her husband was still inside, according to authorities. Police entered the residence and located Swatts, unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to his back, lying near an upstairs bedroom doorway.
Emergency responders transported Swatts to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Meanwhile, the wounded teenage son was treated and later released.
Investigation revealed that the argument between Harris and Swatts intensified, with Harris eventually grabbing a gun and firing. Reports suggest she initially fired a warning shot before hitting Swatts and her son.
At the scene, police recovered a 9 mm Walther CCP handgun with three shell casings. The weapon still had five live rounds, suggesting several shots were fired.
Details from the initial 911 call reveal that the uninjured son, “J.T.,” reported the incident, mentioning that Harris was still holding the weapon. On the call, a woman can be heard exclaiming she was compelled to shoot after the altercation escalated.
Harris and Swatts were married in 2022, and she has four children from a previous relationship. She remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond as the investigation continues.
