MEQUON, WI – A caregiver at a senior care facility in Mequon has been charged with second-degree reckless homicide after an alleged incident with a 76-year-old resident resulted in the woman’s death.
Abrianna Clark, 27, from Milwaukee, faces serious legal consequences following the death of a resident under her care at Story Point Senior Living, according to the Ozaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Court documents indicate that the tragic events began in November 2024, when Clark allegedly shoved the elderly resident during her shift. The push is said to have resulted in the victim breaking her femur, a severe injury that eventually led to her death. The criminal complaint specifies that Clark had remarked to co-workers about potential repercussions for anyone who reported her actions, indicating a tense atmosphere surrounding the incident.
Authorities were alerted on November 14 following a report of elder abuse within the memory care unit of the facility. Investigators discovered that the altercation between Clark and the resident allegedly occurred a week earlier, on November 7. The facility’s director informed police that Clark admitted to the push, justifying her actions as a response to the resident hitting her with a ruler and damaging her glasses.
While a staff member verified Clark’s repeated admission of pushing the resident, her account shifted during police questioning. Clark’s later statements to authorities suggested that the resident had fallen in the bathroom without any involvement from her. This contradiction added complexity to the investigation.
Initially, Clark faced charges of physically abusing an elder, causing significant injury. However, the nature of the charges escalated following the victim’s death on January 27 of complications from the injury, as determined by the county medical examiner. The elder abuse charge was subsequently dismissed, and homicide charges were filed in late May.
Abrianna Clark appeared before the Ozaukee County court for the first time last week, where her bond was set at $12,500. She is scheduled to appear in court again on June 3 as the case proceeds.
The outcome of this case could have significant implications for caregiver conduct and institutional responsibility within elder care facilities. The Story Point Senior Living incident underscores the crucial need for stringent oversight and training to safeguard the vulnerable populations these institutions serve.
