Animal Abuser Who Stabbed Terrier Mix 17 Times Still At Large in Long Island, New York

Police in Long Island, New York are on the hunt for the person responsible for a brutal case of animal abuse. Earlier this month, a 2-year-old terrier mix was discovered along a road in Nassau County with severe stab wounds. Fortunately, a kind-hearted individual spotted the injured dog and took him to a local shelter, but unfortunately, they were unable to provide the necessary care due to the severity of his injuries.

The dog, now known as Cornell, was then transferred to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, where he was immediately taken to an emergency vet. It was determined that Cornell had been stabbed 17 times, causing significant damage to his lungs. According to District Attorney Anne Donnelly, the wounds were so severe that his lungs required draining multiple times, and some of the stab wounds needed stapling or sewing.

Despite the horrific nature of the attack, Cornell managed to make a full recovery and is now in search of a forever home. The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is seeking a quiet and relaxed foster or adoptive family without kids or cats for the resilient pup.

Authorities are actively seeking the person responsible for the attack and are offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the perpetrator’s arrest. Donnelly urged the community to come forward with any relevant information and emphasized the serious nature of such crimes. She noted that these acts of violence against animals are often a precursor to violence against people, highlighting the importance of holding the perpetrator accountable.

The Nassau County SPCA has also stressed the need for community involvement in bringing the attacker to justice, as such violence poses a risk to the entire community. Anyone with information is urged to contact the animal crimes hotline at (516) 571-7755.

In the meantime, Cornell’s story serves as a reminder of the resilience and unwavering spirit of animals, despite the cruelty they may face. In the face of such adversity, Cornell’s remarkable recovery is a testament to the power of compassion and dedicated care.
