Argument leaves Michigan man stabbed over seventy times lying on the floor of his home where parents find him

JACKSON, MI – The family of Sebastian Igafo-Teo is left to mourn a devastating loss after the 30-year-old father was brutally killed in his own home, a crime for which Joshua Pirtle was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole.

Sebastian Igafo-Teo’s parents discovered their son fatally stabbed after receiving an urgent phone call from a family friend, who had narrowly escaped the same violent encounter. The young father’s life ended in a shocking act that left lasting scars on those who loved him most.

During the sentencing hearing, Igafo-Teo’s mother spoke directly to Pirtle, describing the torment and sorrow the crime has brought her family. She recounted the agony of losing her son to senseless violence, expressing her frustration over Pirtle’s lack of remorse. As family members delivered their statements, Pirtle appeared remotely from the county jail and at one point disconnected from the proceedings, only to be ordered by the judge to listen as the Igafo-Teos shared their pain.

Igafo-Teo was found dead in his Jackson apartment after suffering more than 70 stab wounds. The grim discovery was made by his mother and father, who immediately called emergency services. The bloody scene shattered their world and deprived a young child of his father.

The fatal attack occurred on October 25, 2023, following a heated argument that erupted when Pirtle, his girlfriend, and a mutual friend visited Igafo-Teo at his residence. According to court testimony, longstanding tensions and inflammatory accusations leveled by Pirtle escalated into deadly violence. When the confrontation intensified, power to the home was cut, and Igafo-Teo’s friend fled, later contacting the victim’s mother out of concern for his safety.

Pirtle and his girlfriend, Klaira Mishaw, left the victim’s home in Igafo-Teo’s stolen truck, leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Jackson. Authorities apprehended the pair after the vehicle crashed into a residence and a utility pole not far away. Both sustained minor injuries and were arrested at the scene.

Mishaw later admitted to being an accessory to the murder and received a sentence of probation. Pirtle was brought to trial and found guilty on all charges, including first-degree murder and assault with intent to murder. Prosecutors presented evidence that included a knife containing Igafo-Teo’s blood and hair, as well as blood beneath Pirtle’s fingernails.

Throughout the trial and sentencing, Pirtle denied involvement in the killing, maintaining his innocence despite the jury’s swift verdict. He was also convicted for offenses related to the violent encounter with Igafo-Teo’s friend and the subsequent car theft and police pursuit.

Prosecutors argued that the killing was premeditated, referencing social media posts in which Pirtle voiced ongoing grievances against Igafo-Teo in the months leading up to the crime.

The life sentence for Pirtle offers some measure of resolution for Igafo-Teo’s family, though it cannot bring back the devoted father and loved one they lost. As the case closes, communities across Jackson remember Sebastian Igafo-Teo for the life he lived and mourn the loss of a family man taken in a senseless act of violence.
