Armed Man Found Dead at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Suspicious Incident

Glenwood Springs, Colorado – The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the death of a 20-year-old man found deceased at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park on Saturday. The man, heavily armed and dressed in tactical clothing, reportedly broke into the park after hours and was not directly associated with the establishment.

The sheriff’s office revealed that the suspect was carrying a semi-automatic rifle, a semi-automatic handgun, and multiple loaded magazines for both weapons. He was also wearing body armor and a ballistic helmet. Additionally, improvised explosives were discovered with the man’s body and in his vehicle outside the park’s entrance.

Upon this discovery, the Grand Junction Bomb Squad successfully disarmed the bombs, and the Garfield County All Hazard Response Team conducted a thorough search for hidden devices within the park. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities have emphasized that there is currently no threat to the public. As a precaution, the amusement park remains closed indefinitely.

This tragic incident marks the second death at the park within the past two years, following the death of a 6-year-old girl in September 2021. The girl had fallen to her death from the Haunted Mine Drop ride, leading to a pending wrongful death lawsuit against Glenwood Caverns.

The sheriff’s office has not disclosed further details regarding the investigation, including the search of the suspect’s home. As authorities continue their inquiry, they have underscored the potentially devastating impact the suspect’s arsenal could have had on the community and first responders, had an attack been carried out.

In the meantime, the community remains on high alert as authorities work to piece together the sequence of events leading to the suspicious death at the adventure park.
