Arrest made in fatal shooting outside Fresno bar: Suspect identified as Domonique Jones

Fresno, California – A man has been arrested for the fatal shooting of another man in northwest Fresno over the weekend, police announced Friday. Domonique Jones, 26, has been taken into custody for the death of Gilberto Gutierrez, 38, who tragically lost his life following an altercation outside Ewell’s Place on Shaw and Marks streets early Sunday morning.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2 am when an argument escalated amongst a group of approximately nine individuals outside the bar. Gutierrez intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the situation between his friends and Jones. Tragically, the conflict turned deadly when Jones brandished a handgun and shot Gutierrez, leaving him critically injured in the parking lot before he succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

Law enforcement revealed that Jones, identified as the sole perpetrator of Gutierrez’s murder, was apprehended later in the day. Surveillance footage played a crucial role in pinpointing Jones as the assailant, capturing the chilling moment when he fired the fatal shot. Meanwhile, Gutierrez’s family expressed their devastation in an interview, with his mother, Maria Dolores Gonzalez, sharing her heartbreak and disbelief at the loss of her son.

Gutierrez is survived by his wife and four children, marking this as the ninth homicide in Fresno for the year. Authorities are now transferring the case to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, with plans to potentially file charges by Tuesday. The community mourns the loss of Gutierrez while seeking justice for his senseless death, as the legal process unfolds to hold the perpetrator accountable for his actions.

As investigations continue and the legal proceedings progress, the tragic shooting serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges of violence in the community, urging for a collective effort to address and prevent such devastating incidents from reoccurring.
