Arrest Made in Murder Case After Three Years: Bell County Indicts Mark Anthony Hamilton

Killeen, Texas – After more than three years passed since the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old woman, a man has been indicted for her murder in Killeen, Texas. Mark Anthony Hamilton, 43, was recently indicted on a first-degree felony charge in connection with the shooting death of Tonya Denise Dixon on December 17, 2020. It took less than three months for the grand jury in Bell County to hand down the indictment.

Hamilton was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Killeen and booked into the Bell County Jail on February 12 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is currently being held on a $1 million bond for the murder charge, authorities said. Killeen Police Department officers responded to a 911 call about a gunshot victim at an apartment building on South Tenth Street on the day of the incident.

At the scene, officers found Dixon in significant pain and she was transported to the hospital by EMS. A man and a woman were also present at the scene, and evidence revealed multiple bullet holes in the door of the apartment and a bullet hole in a window facing the street. The man at the scene identified the shooter as Mark Hamilton, stating they had a confrontation earlier that day.

The woman at the scene also identified Hamilton as the shooter, and Dixon was pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy showed she had suffered two gunshot wounds. In addition to Hamilton’s indictment, other individuals were also indicted in Bell County on various charges, including violation of motor fuel tax requirements, stalking, injury to a child, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance, theft, burglary, assault of a family member, indecency with a child, and kidnapping.
