Arrested: Man Charges in Tampering with Evidence After Deadly Lakeland Shooting

Plant City, Florida – Demarius Wilson, 22, has been taken into custody by the Plant City Police Department nearly two months after a tragic shooting incident outside a Lakeland apartment complex resulted in the deaths of his brother Kemarius and a 3-year-old.

The shooting took place on March 11 at the Cambridge Cove Apartments, where four individuals, including the deceased 3-year-old Jaquez Norton, were sitting in a Toyota RAV4. During their attempt to leave the complex, the group was blocked by three men in a white 2014 Dodge Challenger, leading to a confrontation where gunshots were exchanged.

Demarius Wilson, his brother Kemarius, and another man, Kevarius Green, were involved in the incident. Tragically, young Jaquez Norton lost his life during the confrontation, prompting swift action from law enforcement.

After the shooting, Demarius Wilson and Green fled the scene in the Dodge Challenger, while Kemarius Wilson was rushed to Lakeland Regional Health, where he was pronounced dead. Police later found the Challenger covered with a black tarp near Lincoln Avenue, suspecting that Wilson had attempted to conceal evidence.

Wilson was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident. Chief Sammy Taylor of the Lakeland Police Department expressed gratitude for the public’s assistance in providing leads and tips, emphasizing the department’s commitment to seeking justice for the victims and their families.

Prior to Wilson’s arrest, Kevarius Green had turned himself in to authorities on March 19 and was charged with multiple serious offenses, including two counts of first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and attempted first-degree murder. The case continues to unfold as law enforcement works diligently to hold all individuals involved accountable for their actions.
