Assault Charges: Teens from Māngere College Attack Marcellin Boy at Bus Stop

Auckland, New Zealand – Three teenagers, aged between 15 and 16, have been charged with assault following a violent attack on a fellow student from a different school. The incident occurred on February 12 when a group of 10-15 teenagers from Māngere College targeted a boy from Marcellin College as he got off the bus in Mangere. The attack reportedly took place in the car park behind McDonald’s and was witnessed by around 30 other teenagers who allegedly encouraged and filmed the assault.

The victim, a junior at Marcellin College, was hospitalized after being struck in the head three times with a bottle, punched, kicked, and stomped on by multiple individuals. A couple who witnessed the attack intervened, providing first aid to the injured boy and taking him to the hospital until his mother arrived. The police have charged the three boys involved in the assault and have referred them to Youth Aid for further action.

Authorities have emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards violence, particularly in public spaces, and have assured accountability for those engaging in criminal behavior. Following the incident, school and community leaders have called for peace and an end to rivalry between the two schools. Measures were taken to enhance security in the area, including temporary changes to bus routes to ensure the safety of students.

Community meetings involving police and the families of those involved have taken place to address the situation. School officials have also engaged in discussions to find a resolution and prevent any future occurrences. Efforts are being made to strengthen relationships and connections within the community, emphasizing commonalities rather than differences among students. Additional security measures, including the presence of a private security firm, have been implemented to maintain peace and order in the affected area.
