Ahmedabad, India – Foreign students at Gujarat University faced a harrowing ordeal as they were attacked by unknown assailants while observing evening prayers during Ramadan. The violent incident occurred within the Block A hostel premises, where the assailants not only assaulted the students but also vandalized their rooms and engaged in stone-throwing and shouting. Reports indicated that students from Block B hostel prohibited the victims from performing their prayers within the hostel area, leading to the confrontation.
Following the assault, the injured students were rushed to SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad, where they were listed in stable condition. The Ahmedabad Police responded swiftly to the situation, acknowledging the attack on foreign students at Gujarat University and stating that the perpetrators had caused injuries.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik revealed that approximately 25 individuals were involved in disrupting the prayer session, escalating into a confrontation that resulted in destruction. An investigative team consisting of nine units has been assembled to probe the incident and identify those responsible for the violence.
Among the three students hospitalized, two were confirmed to be from Tajikistan and Sri Lanka. Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi has instructed stringent action against the 25 unidentified individuals believed to have participated in the assault. The incident has garnered attention from various figures, such as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and NSUI national president Varun Chaudhary, who have called on government officials for intervention and accountability.
