Assaulting Boston School Principal, 19-Year-Old Pleads Guilty and Sentenced to Department of Youth Services

Boston, Massachusetts – A 19-year-old individual previously accused of assaulting a school principal in a violent incident three years ago when she was 16 has pleaded guilty to the charges in juvenile court. The incident took place at the Dr. William W. Henderson Inclusion School in Dorchester in November 2021. The principal sustained serious injuries, including a concussion, a possible rib fracture, and swelling to her face and head, as a result of the assault. The teen’s mother had reportedly threatened the principal the night before the incident occurred.

Laurette LaRouge, who was 16 at the time of the assault, appeared in juvenile court, where the judge decided that she would be placed in Department of Youth Services custody for the next 30 to 35 days for an assessment of her needs. Her defense attorney mentioned that during her time there, she will receive treatment and have the opportunity to reflect on her actions, take responsibility, and ultimately move forward.

Despite efforts from her attorney to suggest probation instead of custody, the judge deemed the offenses as too violent, with one resulting in serious bodily harm to the victim. LaRouge’s attorney also noted that she has been struggling with mental health issues since the assault. She will remain in DYS custody until her 21st birthday.

The Dr. William W. Henderson K-12 Inclusion School caters to a diverse group of students from various backgrounds, including those with disabilities who learn alongside their non-disabled peers in general education classrooms. The school’s Upper Campus is situated in Dorchester, Boston, at 18 Croftland Ave., while the Lower Campus is located at 1669 Dorchester Ave.

The assault served as a reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of school staff members who dedicate themselves to educating and supporting students on a daily basis. School officials and authorities continue to work towards creating a secure environment for everyone within the educational community.
