Balaclava-Clad Men Jailed for 50+ Years After Brutal Attack on Young Boys

DONCASTER, England – A group of masked men armed with bats and machetes has been sentenced to a total of over 50 years in jail for a brutal attack on two young boys in an abandoned warehouse. The incident took place on 11 April 2023 in the Askern area of Doncaster, leaving the victims with severe injuries.

John and Robert Mahoney, Kian Carte and Mark Siddall were responsible for assaulting a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old boy. The group attacked the boys with their weapons, causing the 16-year-old to fear for his life and believe he was going to die.

The 16-year-old suffered significant injuries to his arms, face, back, and head, requiring eight hours of surgery. Meanwhile, the other 15-year-old victim sustained deep cuts to his hand and back and suffered a serious head injury.

Despite initially pleading not guilty, the attackers later admitted to two counts of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm (GBH) at Sheffield Crown Court on 30 August 2023. On 6 February, the four of them were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court, receiving a combined total of 53 years and eight months in jail.

Detective Sergeant Kath Coulter described the attack as an “utterly abhorrent” act and expressed satisfaction at the lengthy sentences handed to the perpetrators. She hopes that the sentences will give some closure to the victims as they attempt to recover from the trauma inflicted on them.

John Mahoney, 38, of Laurel Terrace, Skellow, was sentenced to 13 years in jail, along with his brother, Robert Mahoney, 41, of Crossfield Lane, Skellow. Kian Carte, 22, of Laurel Terrace, Skellow, received a 14-year sentence, while Mark Siddall, 39, of Acacia Road, Skellow, was jailed for 13 years and eight months, in addition to admitting an additional count of occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) in a separate incident.
