Beloved Youth Football Coach Killed in Alleged Road Rage Shooting: Family Continues Search for Answers

Indianapolis, IN – The family of a beloved youth football coach who was shot and killed in an alleged road rage incident one year ago is still searching for answers. Richard Donnell Hamilton was fatally shot while exiting I-65 at County Line Road in Greenwood on Jan. 11, 2023. His widow, Tiffany Hamilton, expressed the ongoing pain and anguish she and her family continue to endure since the tragic incident. The case remains unsolved and authorities are still seeking information to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Richard Hamilton was known for his positive influence on the community. He founded the Indy Youth Steelers, a youth football team, and was involved in the Tarkington Teen Work Crew program at the MLK Center. His commitment to empowering youth and his impact on the community left a lasting impression.

Despite continued efforts, no arrests have been made in the case. However, authorities recently announced they are searching for a newer model of a silver Mazda with dark tinted windows, believed to be the suspect vehicle. The alleged shooter was reported to have targeted Richard’s van as they exited I-65 northbound.

The Indiana State Police (ISP) acknowledges the challenges of solving road rage cases due to the lack of gathered details and the constantly evolving crime scene. Out of nearly 300 road rage incidents last year, only seven arrests were made as of late December. Tiffany Hamilton pleads for anyone with information to come forward, urging the perpetrator to turn themselves in.

The family’s pain and the unresolved nature of the case serve as a grim reminder of the need for justice in such senseless acts of violence. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477 (TIPS).
