Bronx Widow Lives in Fear as Police Hunt for Husband’s Killer

NEW YORK – The widow of a man killed in front of his Bronx home is living in constant fear as police work to track down the individuals involved in the shooting.

Hector David, 34, was fatally shot in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx on Dec. 20. His wife, who asked not to be identified out of fear of retaliation, last saw him in their kitchen before he went outside to smoke. Security cameras showed him outside, but she does not know what happened after that.

The shooter, Daniel Santos, 22, and two other men approached David on Carpenter Ave. near E. 221st St.around 3:35 a.m. Santos fired two shots from a 9-mm pistol, striking David in the torso. The men then fled the scene. David was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, but he could not be saved.

The couple had moved to the neighborhood in February, and his wife believes they had made no enemies. Santos was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Following an arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, he was held without bail.

David was killed months after he spent two years behind bars for a Bronx conviction for assault and menacing a police officer, records show. He left behind a 2-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son. His wife described him as a caring and providing father and husband, stating that he was not a violent person.

Police are still searching for the other men involved in the shooting.
