Brookings Police Investigate Two Unrelated Deaths, Assure Public No Threat

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Brookings Police Department is currently investigating two separate deaths that occurred this week, assuring the public that there is no threat to their safety. The first incident involved a 13-year-old experiencing a severe medical emergency on Tuesday evening. Despite attempted life-saving measures at the scene, the juvenile was later pronounced deceased at the Brookings Emergency Department. The unattended death is currently under investigation by the Brookings Police Department.

Shortly after, the police department responded to a report of an unresponsive female at a residence early Wednesday morning. First responders attempted life-saving measures, and the female was also transported to the Brookings Emergency Department where she was pronounced deceased. Both deaths are being investigated by the Brookings Police Department and the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation.
