Brooklyn Man Charged with Shooting Teen During Drug Robbery in East Flatbush

Brooklyn, New York – A young man who narrowly escaped a confrontation with a Brooklyn gunman, only to witness the perpetrator being fatally shot by NYPD officers, now faces charges in connection to a separate shooting incident. Jeremiah Adams, 19, was taken into custody following a dramatic altercation with Nathan Scott, 20, in East Flatbush.

According to police reports, Adams, who was unarmed, attempted to rob Scott, prompting a chase and an exchange of gunfire between the two men. The situation escalated when members of the Brooklyn South Critical Response Team intervened, resulting in Scott’s death. During the chaos, bystander Henry Massop, aged 60, was unintentionally struck by stray bullets.

While Adams escaped gunfire during this incident, he faces charges related to another shooting involving a teenager two weeks prior. In that case, Adams and an accomplice allegedly pulled guns on a victim during a marijuana heist, resulting in the victim sustaining multiple gunshot wounds but ultimately surviving.

Adams appeared in Brooklyn Criminal Court where he was ordered held on $75,000 bail on charges including attempted murder, assault, robbery, and gun possession. Police sources indicate that Adams has a prior criminal record and is also suspected of involvement in a nonfatal shooting in Queens in 2022.

The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is currently reviewing the circumstances of the fatal shooting of Nathan Scott, including the use of police tactics during the incident. The incident has raised questions about the escalation of violence in the community and the risks posed to bystanders in such confrontations.

The search for Adams’ accomplice in the March 7 shooting continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the recent encounters. The incidents serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing escalating crime rates and the need for comprehensive strategies to address underlying issues contributing to violent incidents in neighborhoods like East Flatbush.
