DOWNERS GROVE, IL – An Illinois community is reeling after a brutal slaying in a quiet apartment complex, where a routine online transaction erupted into a scene of tragedy and violence. Authorities say a 19-year-old man faces multiple charges following the violent death of a pregnant mother, in an incident that has left residents shocked and deeply saddened.
Law enforcement officials allege that Nedas Revuckas, 19, fatally stabbed Eliza Morales, 30, nearly 70 times inside her Downers Grove residence Monday evening. According to police, Revuckas was meeting with Morales as part of the arrangements for a truck sale that she and her husband had organized through Facebook Marketplace. Investigators believe frustration over the condition of the vehicle led to the deadly encounter.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the apartment complex on the 2300 block of Ogden Avenue shortly after 6 p.m., responding to both a reported structure fire and an assault. Inside the apartment, responders discovered Morales with severe stab wounds. Despite attempts to provide medical aid, she died at the scene. Morales, who was six months pregnant, was expecting her second child within a few months.
Another individual at the residence received treatment at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital, police said. Morales’ one-year-old daughter was not present during the attack.
Court filings reveal further disturbing details. Authorities say Revuckas was already in possession of the pickup truck being sold by the Morales family, and he had returned to their home to retrieve paperwork and return license plates. The encounter allegedly escalated into violence at the front door, where camera footage reportedly captured a physical struggle as Morales attempted to prevent Revuckas from entering.
Once inside, Revuckas is accused of inflicting dozens of stab wounds on Morales, resulting in her death as well as the loss of her unborn child. After the attack, investigators claim Revuckas stabbed the family’s dog in the head. The wounded dog escaped from the fire and is currently receiving veterinary care.
Investigators say that after the stabbing, Revuckas doused the apartment’s kitchen with chemicals and intentionally set it on fire, leading to arson charges. Smoke and flames prompted a rapid emergency response and evacuation of the building, but responders were unable to save Morales despite their efforts.
Police arrested Revuckas not long after the incident. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the assault, explaining that frustration over the truck’s condition had triggered his actions.
Prosecutors have charged Revuckas with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder, intentional homicide of an unborn child, armed robbery, aggravated arson, and aggravated cruelty to animals. He remains in custody as legal proceedings continue.
Family and friends mourned the loss of Morales, a staff member in the payroll department at a children’s hospital, describing her as a devoted mother and wife. Her husband received news of the tragedy while at work, and now faces the challenge of raising their young daughter in the wake of the devastating loss.
Local officials have underscored the rarity of such violence in the area and have encouraged residents to take extra precautions when meeting strangers for online transactions. The investigation remains ongoing as the community grieves a life cut tragically short.
