New York City, USA – Lower Manhattan’s iconic “Charging Bull” statue was recently vandalized with a hateful message as protesters waving Palestinian flags marched through the area. The graffiti, featuring the words “Death to Israel” in black marker behind the bull’s ear and “Free Palestine” across its face, was discovered by onlookers as anti-Israel demonstrators passed by.
During the incident, some protesters, including a man dressed in traditional Orthodox Jewish attire, climbed on top of the bronze statue and brandished Palestinian flags. The crowd eventually made its way to City Hall, where multiple arrests were made.
The NYPD reported that eight people received summonses for disorderly conduct, while one individual faced charges of resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. The protesters were participating in an “Emergency Action For Gaza” rally in response to the deaths of over 100 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip earlier that day.
According to eyewitnesses in Gaza, the violence erupted when Israeli troops allegedly opened fire on Palestinians attempting to access aid supplies. Israel, however, claims that the deaths were a result of a stampede and that only warning shots were fired during the incident.
One victim, Kamel Abu Nahel, recounted being shot in the leg while trying to retrieve aid supplies before being run over by a truck as he lay injured on the ground. The United Nations is currently investigating the situation, as concerns grow over a potential famine in Gaza.
