Chicago Police Report 29 Shot and 1 Dead in Weekend Spree

Chicago, Illinois – A wave of violence swept across Chicago over the weekend, leaving at least 29 people injured in shootings, with one fatality reported by the Chicago Police.

During the series of shootings that occurred between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, a 44-year-old man lost his life after being shot in the left eye during an argument in Austin. Two other individuals were also injured in the incident, with a 50-year-old man in good condition at Stroger Hospital and a 27-year-old woman treated and released at Loretto Hospital.

Among the victims were a 12-year-old boy shot while riding his bicycle, a 9-year-old girl accidentally shot by a family member, and six individuals wounded in a mass shooting in East Garfield Park. No suspects have been apprehended by authorities in connection with any of the incidents.

In another incident, a 24-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was listed in critical condition at Stroger Hospital. Additionally, a 39-year-old man was injured in the leg while driving his car, and a 53-year-old woman was shot in the thigh while sitting on her porch.

The string of shootings continued late into the night, with three young men shot during an argument in a backyard, resulting in two being hospitalized in serious condition and another in good condition. Other victims were found across various locations in the city, all requiring medical attention for their gunshot wounds.

The spate of violence underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating gun violence in Chicago, a city plagued by high rates of shootings and homicides. Community leaders and activists are calling for greater efforts to address the root causes of violence and implement comprehensive strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
