Chicago Weekend Violence Erupts with 13 Shot, 2 Dead as Police Search for Suspects

Chicago, Illinois – A weekend of violence in Chicago has left at least 13 people shot, with two fatalities reported by the police. Among the incidents, a 55-year-old man was fatally shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on Saturday morning. The victim was targeted by someone firing from a passing vehicle, leading to his death after being struck in the body. Police have not yet made any arrests in connection to the shooting.

In another incident, a 34-year-old man was hit by gunfire while driving in the city’s South Loop neighborhood. The victim was shot in the knee by an unknown assailant firing from a silver sedan. Despite his injury, the man managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital and is currently in good condition. Investigators are actively searching for the shooter with the assistance of Area Three detectives.

Earlier that same morning, a 20-year-old man was shot and robbed in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. The victim was approached by an unknown individual demanding his belongings before shooting him. He sustained two gunshot wounds to the knee but is reported to be in good condition after being taken to the University of Chicago Hospital.

Tragically, a man lost his life in a shooting late Friday in the University Village neighborhood. The 37-year-old victim was fatally shot multiple times by a group of individuals while standing near his car. Despite being rushed to Stroger Hospital, he was pronounced dead. The identities of the suspects remain unknown at this time.

Additionally, three individuals were injured in Chicago’s Washington Park neighborhood after a man opened fire inside a bar. Two men were shot and are currently being treated at the University of Chicago Hospital, with one in critical condition. A 48-year-old woman also sustained injuries from broken glass and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The gunman has been identified by police, but as of now, remains at large.

Last weekend, the city witnessed even more staggering violence, with at least 33 people shot and seven fatalities reported by law enforcement. The ongoing incidents of gun violence in Chicago highlight the urgent need for intervention and community support to address the root causes of such tragedies.
