Community Remembrance Fair Honors Heroes and Heals Wounds Nearly 1 Year After Monterey Park Mass Shooting

ALHAMBRA, Calif. – A year after the devastating mass shooting in nearby Monterey Park, the Lai Lai Ballroom in Alhambra hosted a community remembrance fair on Saturday. The event aimed to provide healing and support to those affected by the tragic event.

Brandon Tsay, one of the organizers, played a heroic role in preventing further bloodshed during the shooting. The gunman had already claimed 11 lives at the Star Dance Studio in Monterey Park before Tsay intervened and disarmed the shooter. The event also provided mental health resources and other forms of support for the Asian American community, which has been left feeling anxious and fearful as a result of the shooting.

More than 100 individuals attended the fair, demonstrating a strong turnout and a desire for healing and community support. Tsay expressed gratitude for the community’s resilience and ability to come together in the face of hardship. “It’s a time to celebrate what has happened in the community – how our community has bonded back together again to really confide in each other our struggles and hardships,” he shared.

As the one-year anniversary of the shooting approaches, the community continues to seek healing and support. The event at the Lai Lai Ballroom serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity within the community, as they come together to commemorate the lives lost and support one another in the face of tragedy.
