Convicted: Oakland Man Sentenced for Fatal Father’s Day Party Shooting

Richmond, California – On Friday, the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office announced the conviction of an Oakland man for a shooting incident that occurred at a Father’s Day party in Richmond in 2021. Enrique Ramirez Calmo, along with a 17-year-old accomplice, had fatally shot three people and injured five others at the event.

Ramirez Calmo now faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for his role as one of the two shooters at the party, which took place on Dunn Avenue near 20th Street. The shooting was reportedly sparked by mistaken identity and gang rivalry, with the victims being men between the ages of 18 and 45 who had attended the party advertised on Facebook.

Authorities shared that Ramirez Calmo and his fellow gang member opened fire at the event, with the second shooter being a minor at the time. The breakthrough in the case came when police discovered a ballistic match from a separate shooting in Oakland on the same night. Furthermore, video footage showed the suspects arriving at the party in a Nissan Altima.

In March 2022, Ramirez Calmo and the teenage shooter were apprehended by law enforcement. During the trial, prosecutors presented compelling evidence, including video footage captured by one of the victims during the shooting. The district attorney, Diana Becton, described the incident as a “senseless massacre” that had devastating repercussions on innocent families.

Following the jury’s verdict earlier in the week, Ramirez Calmo was found guilty on multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder, along with gang-related enhancements. He is set to be sentenced on March 11 in Martinez for his involvement in the tragic event.
