RALEIGH, NC – In what authorities describe as a deliberate attempt to kill his wife, a North Carolina man has been charged following a dramatic head-on vehicle collision on Saturday. The incident unfolded when Anderson Singleton, 33, allegedly drove his car into oncoming traffic, sparking a serious crash.
Singleton faces multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, after police claim he intentionally caused the crash while driving a black Honda CR-V with his wife as a passenger. Witnesses at the scene reported that Singleton swerved into a brown Toyota Camry traveling in the opposite direction.
The collision was captured on the dashcam of a passing vehicle, providing crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation. The footage reportedly showed the moment of impact and the chaotic scene that followed.
Jorge Bravo, a bystander who witnessed the crash, stepped in to help. Recounting the aftermath, he said Singleton made alarming statements at the scene, allegedly admitting intentions to harm both himself and his wife. According to Bravo, Singleton was quoted saying, “We’re trying to kill each other.”
Police have indicated that there was no evidence of impairment due to drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. However, Singleton’s alleged confessions have raised concerns about his mental state.
A paramedic who coincidentally came across the crash rendered aid to the injured parties, which included Singleton, his wife, and two men from the Camry. Bravo described the scene as Singleton’s wife appeared to be in significant distress as she lay next to the vehicle after the incident.
The four individuals involved were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, but, fortunately, none were life-threatening. Following treatment, Singleton was released and immediately taken into police custody.
Currently housed in Wake County Jail, Singleton is being held without bond. His charges include two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, causing serious injuries, along with citations for careless driving and other related offenses. The investigation continues as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
