DeKalb County Tragedy: Suspect in Custody After Fatal Shooting of Woman and Young Girl

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A tragic shooting at an apartment complex in DeKalb County on Friday left two victims dead, prompting a swift response from law enforcement that culminated in the arrest of the suspected shooter later that evening.

Shortly after 2:45 p.m., officers responded to calls regarding gunfire at an apartment complex located just off Interstate 20 on Columbia Drive. Authorities discovered the bodies of a 29-year-old woman, Tomika Pullins, and her 7-year-old niece, Dior Scott, who had both sustained fatal injuries.

Witnesses reported that William Almond, 48, was attempting to enter the apartment when he became confrontational. After being denied entry, police say he smashed a window and fired several shots inside, striking both Pullins and Scott before fleeing the scene on foot.

Almond was later tracked down in a getaway vehicle and taken into custody. The DeKalb County Police Department expressed gratitude for the dedication of their detectives, whose efforts were crucial in securing the suspect’s capture promptly.

DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson issued a statement expressing her sorrow over the incident. “No family should have to endure such an unthinkable tragedy,” she noted. “Our community grieves alongside the loved ones of Tomika and Dior.” Cochran-Johnson commended the police for their thorough investigation and commitment to justice, emphasizing the need for support for the victims’ family during this difficult time.

Investigators revealed that Almond is related to both victims, being the uncle of the young girl and the estranged husband of Pullins. This familial connection adds another layer of heartbreak to the already devastating situation.

As the investigation continues, community members are mourning the loss of two lives taken too soon. Relatives and friends are encouraged to share their memories and support one another as they navigate this profound loss. The case serves as a stark reminder of the impact of domestic violence and the urgent need for intervention and resources within communities.

Authorities are working diligently to understand the circumstances leading up to the shooting and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.
