Detroit man claims he shot his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day to stop her suffering

DETROIT, MI – A Michigan man was apprehended last week after allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day, claiming the act was meant to end her suffering.

Desaun Travon Ross, 31, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of Ebony Robinson. According to authorities, an argument between Ross and Robinson escalated while they were inside her car, leading to the tragic event.

Detroit police officers responded to reports of gunfire on Feb. 14 around 9:05 a.m. near Washburn and Santa Clara Streets. Upon arrival, they discovered that Ross had barricaded himself within a nearby house, prompting a standoff.

Before barricading himself, Ross allegedly exited Robinson’s vehicle during an argument and discharged a handgun through the driver’s side window, striking Robinson. As she attempted to escape, she crashed the car into a porch. Ross is then accused of using a rifle to fatally shoot her in the head.

The tense standoff with police lasted several hours before Ross surrendered. Local residents were kept inside their homes or prevented from returning as police secured the area.

“It’s frightening living around such violence,” remarked a resident known only as Katrina, who has lived in the neighborhood for 14 years, noting an increase in local crime.

Ross appeared in court on Sunday, where prosecutors presented his confession. He reportedly told the police he shot Robinson to “stop her from suffering.” His admission was allegedly captured on a police body camera.

The judge denied Ross’s bond, ensuring he remains in custody. He is slated to appear in court again on Feb. 24 for a probable cause hearing.
