Digital Vigil Unites UK in Remembrance of Holocaust Victims

London, UK – Dr. Rachel Century, deputy chief executive at Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, expressed the importance of holding a “digital vigil” to honor the memory of those who perished in genocides. She emphasized the significance of remembering not only the 6 million Jews who were killed during the Holocaust but also all innocent men, women, and children who have been murdered in genocides. To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, iconic outdoor advertising sites across the UK, including The Piccadilly Lights, were illuminated to commemorate the occasion.

The digital vigil, which took place at 8 pm on Saturday, featured 400 OOH sites simultaneously displaying thousands of candles being lit. The 6 million candles represented the number of Jews killed during the Holocaust, and they were displayed for a 10-minute vigil. This annual “Light the Darkness” national moment aims to shed light on the atrocities of the Holocaust and stand up against discrimination and prejudice.

By lighting up famous British buildings and landmarks in purple, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust seeks to raise awareness and encourage people to reflect on the past. The digital vigil serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of commemorating the victims of genocide and advocating for a better future. The event also serves as a call to action for individuals and communities to stand up against hatred and intolerance.
