Domestic Dispute in Bibb County Leads to Double Murder-Suicide During Eviction Effort

BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — A tragic incident unfolded Tuesday morning in Bibb County, resulting in a double murder-suicide during an attempt to serve an eviction notice at a home in the Lake Wildwood community. Authorities responded to a domestic dispute that escalated into violence after deputies arrived at the residence.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Civil Process Unit reached the property on Ridgeview Circle around 10:16 a.m. As they began the eviction process, they heard multiple gunshots fired from within the home. In response, the deputies retreated for safety and summoned additional support, which led to a substantial deployment of SWAT, hostage negotiators, and specialized teams.

Negotiators attempted to communicate with anyone inside the house but were unsuccessful. Shortly after noon, SWAT team members breached the residence, where they discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims were identified as 49-year-old Brande Summers and her 21-year-old daughter, Haliegh Summers. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene, leaving the community in shock. Authorities later found Ray Summers, 51, with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to the county coroner’s office. Investigators suspect the shots that prompted the initial police response were fired by Ray Summers.

The circumstances leading to the dispute remain unclear, but the implications of the event highlight ongoing concerns regarding domestic violence and mental health crises. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences that can arise from unresolved domestic disputes.

Local authorities are continuing their investigation, and the Violent Crimes Unit is appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the events or have relevant details. Residents in the area are being encouraged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.

This tragic case underscores the importance of addressing domestic conflicts before they escalate and serves as a call for communities to provide support to those in crisis.
