Domestic Violence: Earlville Man Charged with Aggravated Assault and Home Invasion

SYCAMORE, Illinois – A man from Earlville is facing charges in connection with a violent attack and home invasion, where he allegedly assaulted and threatened a woman during a drive from Corral’s Bar and Grill in Sandwich to Shabbona. Steven S. Frangoules, 32, has been charged with multiple counts, including aggravated domestic battery causing strangulation, after the incident on April 15.

During the drive, Frangoules reportedly became enraged and attacked the woman multiple times, causing visible injuries to her face, mouth, neck, arms, and ankle. The victim managed to escape several times, but Frangoules allegedly chased her down, choked her, and threatened her life. The woman eventually sought refuge in a neighbor’s house and called 911, leading to Frangoules’ arrest.

Frangoules appeared in court, where prosecutors argued against his release citing the violent nature of his alleged crimes and past criminal history. Despite defense claims of lack of evidence to support the charges, the judge ordered Frangoules to remain in custody without bail while awaiting trial.

If convicted of the most serious charge of home invasion, Frangoules could face a lengthy prison sentence. The victim, whose injuries were documented by police and paramedics, has recounted a harrowing experience of being repeatedly assaulted and threatened by Frangoules during the drive and at her residence in Shabbona.

The case has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of the victim, as well as the potential danger posed by Frangoules if released. The judge emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and the need to protect the victim from further harm, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

Frangoules’ next court appearance is scheduled for May 9th, where he will face formal arraignment. The community is watching closely as the legal proceedings unfold, seeking justice for the victim and accountability for the accused perpetrator in this disturbing case of domestic violence and home invasion.
