Drowning Incident: Bihar Man’s Body Discovered After Bathing in Nepal’s Bagmati River

Chandrapur, Nepal — The body of a 30-year-old Indian man was discovered in an irrigation canal on Sunday, a day after he drowned in the Bagmati River. Rohit Kumar Singh, a resident of Bihar’s Khagaria district, was reported missing after he entered the river to bathe Saturday afternoon.

Singh reportedly consumed alcohol before entering the water around 2:40 p.m. Officials indicated that a search operation team, which included members from the Armed Police Force’s Disaster Response Unit and local authorities, located his body at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Sunday within the Gujara Municipality area, according to Rautahat District Police Chief Deepak Kumar Rai.

After a forensic examination, authorities returned the body to his family, who are now grappling with the tragic loss. This incident adds to a troubling pattern, as it occurs just months after several other accidents involving Indian tourists in Nepal.

In a related case earlier this year, an 18-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh drowned while swimming in the Tinau River, despite warnings about the dangerous conditions. The victim, Sohaib Ansari, went missing on May 22 while visiting Nepal with friends. His body was later recovered after extensive search efforts.

In another tragic incident, a 15-year-old from Gorakhpur also drowned in the Tinau River the same month. Reports indicate that he, too, had ignored warnings from local authorities about the river’s dangers. Earlier in March, a 25-year-old man from Gorakhpur went missing while swimming in the same river, with his body discovered days later more than a kilometer away from where he initially disappeared.

These incidents highlight ongoing safety concerns for tourists engaging in water activities in Nepal, particularly during the monsoon season when river conditions can be unpredictable and hazardous. Local authorities continue to urge caution and awareness among visitors to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
