Drug-Lord Nicknamed ‘The Cocaine Grandmother’ Murdered With Her Own Method

MIAMI, FLORIDA – Griselda Blanco may not be as well-known as other infamous drug lords, but her story is just as action-packed and chaotic. Known as ‘The Cocaine Godmother’, Blanco was a major player in the cocaine industry during the 1980s, rising through the ranks to become one of the world’s most powerful bosses.

Blanco’s criminal activities included a string of gory murders and violent revenge attacks, all while banking billions of dollars with her illegal enterprise. However, her reign came to an end in 1985 when she was arrested and charged with conspiracy to manufacture, import, and distribute cocaine, leading to a 15-year sentence.

Even while incarcerated, Blanco’s dark past caught up with her, as she was later charged with three counts of first-degree murder, including the murder of a two-year-old boy. She eventually pleaded guilty to the charges, adding another 20 years to her sentence.

Blanco’s life came to a dramatic end in 2012 when, outside a butcher shop in her hometown of Medellin, she was gunned down by two hitmen on motorbikes – using the very method of drive-by motorcycle murders that she had pioneered during her criminal days.

Professor Bruce Bagley of the University of Miami’s department of international studies pointed out the irony of Blanco meeting an end that she had delivered to so many others, citing it as a form of poetic justice. Blanco’s life and death serve as a cautionary tale of the consequences that come with a life of crime and violence.

In the end, Griselda Blanco may have been a lesser-known figure compared to other drug lords, but her story is a testament to the violent and dangerous world of drug trafficking and organized crime. Her rise and fall, shrouded in infamy, is a reminder that justice, in one form or another, eventually catches up to those who perpetrate such heinous crimes.
