HOUSTON, TX – Authorities in Harris County are searching for a man accused of killing both of his parents in their home last month, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Leman Jr., 47, has been identified as the suspect in the deaths of Christopher Leman Sr., 75, and Mary Leman, 73. Deputies say the incident unfolded on July 11, after a relative grew concerned about the couple’s wellbeing when he couldn’t reach them. The call prompted law enforcement to conduct a welfare check at the family’s residence on the 10500 block of Crosby Lynchburg Road in east Harris County.
When deputies arrived around 5:30 p.m., they discovered the elderly couple inside their home with severe injuries. Investigators report that Christopher Leman Sr. was found deceased in the living room, having suffered a gunshot wound. Mary Leman was still alive at the scene and was transported to a hospital; however, she died two days later as a result of her injuries.
Initial reports had suggested that both victims had sustained gunshot wounds, but subsequent medical evaluation found that Mary Leman had suffered a serious head laceration, not a gunshot injury. Authorities believe the attack took place at the couple’s home, which is situated in a densely wooded area about half a mile from the main road.
The sheriff’s office described Christopher Leman Jr. as a danger to the community and said his current whereabouts are unknown. As of Friday morning, he has not been apprehended. He is wanted on a capital murder charge. Under Texas law, a conviction for capital murder carries the possibility of the death penalty.
Investigators pieced together information from the crime scene and preliminary interviews, leading them to identify the couple’s adult son as the prime suspect. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who may have knowledge of Christopher Leman Jr.’s location to come forward, stressing the urgency and seriousness of the case.
Community members have expressed shock over the violence. Longtime neighbors described the Lemans as quiet retirees, well-liked by those living nearby. The sheriff’s office emphasized the overwhelming sadness of the situation, noting that the couple appeared to be enjoying their later years.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the killings or indicated whether Leman Jr. may be armed. The investigation remains ongoing, as detectives continue to seek leads that could help bring the suspect into custody.
Anyone with information about Christopher Leman Jr.’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or submit tips anonymously through local crime-stoppers programs.
