Austin, Texas – Tragedy struck the St. David’s North Austin Medical Center on Tuesday night as a car crashed into the emergency room, resulting in one fatality and injuring five others. The incident marked the seventh deadly crash in the City of Austin this year. According to Austin-Travis County EMS, the car drove into the medical center’s emergency room around 5:38 p.m., leading to the death of the driver and injuries to five individuals.

Dr. Peter DeYoung, the chief medical officer at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, described the chaotic scene as hospital staff quickly mobilized to respond to the unforeseen and dangerous situation. Videos captured the impact of the vehicle smashing into the emergency room, highlighting the swift and courageous actions of the medical personnel.

Two children and one adult were transferred to Dell Children’s Hospital, while another adult was taken to Round Rock Medical Center for treatment. Additionally, three staff members sustained minor injuries during the crash. The heroic efforts of the hospital staff to intervene and prevent further harm were commended by Dr. DeYoung.

Local authorities stated that multiple patients were transported to St. David’s Round Rock for ongoing care. The driver, identified as 57-year-old Michelle Holloway, tragically lost her life in the crash. Operations at the hospital resumed the following morning, with the north entrance temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

Despite the unsettling incident, Austin police confirmed that there was no public threat and no evidence of intentional harm. Moreover, there were no indications of a medical emergency leading to the crash. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident remains ongoing, emphasizing the need for a thorough examination of the events that transpired.
