Charlotte, North Carolina — A toxicology report released recently reveals that prominent American chess grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky had a combination of drugs in his system at the time of his death last October. The 29-year-old chess prodigy was found unresponsive in his home on October 19, following a period of controversy surrounding allegations of cheating in online chess competitions leveled against him by a fellow grandmaster.
Naroditsky was discovered by fellow player Oleksandr Bortnyk, who reported that Naroditsky was lying on his couch. The toxicology report indicated the presence of methamphetamine, amphetamine, and two substances derived from the kratom plant: 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine. As of now, the official manner of Naroditsky’s death has not been disclosed by authorities.
A year prior to his passing, Russian grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik publicly accused Naroditsky of cheating during online matches.
