Exclusive: Gypsy Rose Blanchard Opens Up About Forgiveness and Returning to Normal Life After Abusive Past

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Gypsy Rose Blanchard, now 32, recently opened up about her life after being released from prison for her involvement in the 2015 murder of her abusive mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. During an exclusive interview with the Mirror, Gypsy spoke about her journey towards forgiveness and her hopes for a return to a normal life.

As a victim of her mother’s Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological disorder in which the caretaker seeks attention by faking illness in a child, Gypsy endured years of unnecessary medical procedures. These procedures included the removal of her saliva glands, the insertion of a feeding tube, and being forced to pose as a wheelchair-bound invalid with muscular dystrophy and leukemia.

Following her long history of abuse, Gypsy conspired with her boyfriend to end her mother’s life, an act that shocked the world and landed her a second-degree murder conviction. After serving eight-and-a-half years of a 10-year sentence, she was released and is now the subject of a documentary exploring her story.

In her only UK interview since leaving jail, Gypsy expressed regret for her actions, stating, “I regret the fact I made the decision to end her life as a way out. I do think, ‘Well, what if she was here?’ I hope that she would be proud of the woman I am becoming. I now feel more sympathy towards my mother, more forgiveness and more self-forgiveness.”

Gypsy now looks forward to renewing her vows with her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, whom she married while in jail. Additionally, she hopes to use her experiences to advocate for victims of Munchausen syndrome by proxy and to be a voice for those vulnerable to such abuse.

As she continues to navigate the complexities of her past, Gypsy dreams of reshaping her life beyond the confines of her crime, focusing on growth and redemption.

Gypsy’s story is the focus of a six-part documentary, “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard,” set to air on Crime +Investigation from January 15.
