Explosion Rocked Palisade Community: Officials Confirm Intentional Act and Suspect’s Death

Grand Junction, Colorado – The Palisade community is reeling from a tragic explosion that took place last Friday, April 5th, inside a six-unit apartment complex. The incident claimed the life of one individual and left all residents displaced. In response, authorities from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Palisade Police Department, and Palisade Fire Department have united to provide clarity and support to the grieving community.

During a poignant press conference, officials grappled with the emotional toll of the situation, struggling to deliver their statements. Charles Balke, Palisade Fire Chief, solemnly confirmed the details of the tragedy, stating, “On Friday, April 5th, 2024, at 7:15 am, the Palisade Fire Department responded to reports of an apartment explosion with the entire building engulfed in flames. Regrettably, we have confirmed one fatality, and our investigation concludes that the fire was deliberately set.”

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, the fire claimed the life of 18-year-old Kloey Weythman from Palisade. Palisade Police Chief, Jesse Stanford, identified Andrew Alderman as the individual responsible for the explosion. Alderman was later found deceased in Lake County, Colorado. Stanford revealed, “The Lake County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect, who had taken his own life. The motive behind his actions, as expressed in videos, remains unclear at this time.”

In a display of unity and resilience, both the Palisade Fire Department and Palisade Police Department emphasized their commitment to supporting and rebuilding the Palisade community in the aftermath of the tragedy. Chief Balke noted, “Recovery will be a gradual process, but together, we will navigate through this challenging time and emerge stronger as a community.”

The community is invited to participate in a vigil this Friday at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Palisade to honor the victim and show solidarity with those affected by the explosion. The event will commence at 5 pm, providing an opportunity for residents to pay their respects and contribute perennials for planting at the memorial site, symbolizing hope and continuity in the face of adversity.
