Fatal Crash on Highway 1 in Burnaby Leaves One Dead and Several Injured

Burnaby, British Columbia – Tragedy struck early Sunday morning on Highway 1 in Burnaby, where one person lost their life and several others sustained injuries, with two in critical condition, following a two-vehicle collision near the Sprott Street exit.

According to the Burnaby RCMP, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. when a vehicle carrying four passengers had pulled over and stopped on the side of the eastbound highway near the Sprott Street off-ramp. Subsequently, an SUV traveling in the same direction collided with the stationary vehicle.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered one fatality and transported three individuals to the hospital, with two in critical condition. While impairment is not suspected to have played a role in the crash, the driver of the SUV involved was released with minor injuries.

The aftermath of the collision caused significant traffic delays well into Sunday afternoon, with congestion extending beyond the Willingdon Avenue exit. However, by 1:30 p.m., the backlog had been cleared.
