NORTHFIELD TWP., Michigan – An investigation into a home explosion that took the lives of four people and injured two others over the holiday weekend is expected to continue for several more days. The explosion occurred at a home on Winters Lane in Northfield Township, located between Ann Arbor and Whitmore Lake, around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
At the scene, three individuals were found dead, while three others were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. One victim was pronounced dead on Saturday, while the other two remained hospitalized on Sunday. However, the authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown. Northfield Township Fire Department officials have stated that the investigation will continue for several days. In the aftermath of the explosion, the single-family home was completely destroyed, with debris covering approximately 2 acres of the property.
Over 10 police and fire departments responded to the scene. The investigation was hindered by a significant amount of vehicle traffic on Winters Lane, prompting authorities to restrict access to the private road exclusively to residents and their guests until further notice.
“We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the victim’s families during this difficult time,” said Lt. David Powell in a statement.
As the investigation into the cause of the explosion continues, the Northfield Township community remains in shock and mourning over the tragic event.
