Fatal Portland Shooting: Suspect Arrested and Charged with Murder

Portland, Maine – A man from Portland was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with the murder of another city resident, the police department announced on Sunday.

Abdirahman Mahmoud, 36, faces murder charges in connection to the fatal shooting of Raoul Mapendo Tshiyuka, 30, earlier that day.

Authorities responded to a call reporting an injured man at 263 St. John St. early Saturday. They discovered Tshiyuka at the scene and rushed him to Maine Medical Center, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed that Tshiyuka’s cause of death was from a gunshot wound, ruling it as a homicide.

Following their investigation, police identified Mahmoud as a person of interest. South Portland officers located his vehicle at 77 Wainwright Circle East. Subsequently, Portland police, aided by the Southern Maine Regional SWAT team, executed a search warrant at 66 Wellesley Estates in Portland.

As law enforcement officials were conducting the search, Mahmoud contacted authorities and informed them he was present at 224 Ocean Ave. Officers swiftly apprehended Mahmoud without any resistance at the mentioned location.

Presently, Mahmoud is being detained at the Cumberland County Jail without bail, as confirmed by Portland interim Assistant Police Chief Robert Martin. Law enforcement has assured the public that there is no imminent danger to the community.
