SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A prayer vigil was held for Glen Brooks, a 24-year-old who died after an attempted robbery at a gas station. Family members are grappling with the sudden loss, describing him as a good person despite the incident.
South Bend Police reported that surveillance footage showed Brooks entering a gas station and attempting to rob it at gunpoint. A struggle ensued between Brooks and the clerk, leading a bystander to intervene and shoot at Brooks. He later collapsed and died near the gas station.
The Saint Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office ruled the shooting as justifiable homicide, stating that the citizen who fired the fatal shot will not face criminal charges, as per Indiana Code’s provisions on the use of deadly force.
While the family acknowledges Brooks’ mistake that night, they choose to remember him for his kindness and humor. However, they are seeking clarity and access to the surveillance video that captured Brooks’ final moments.
The family continues to mourn the loss of their loved one and hopes to find closure in the investigation. South Bend Police Department has been contacted for the footage of the incident.
