Fatal Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Five Injured in Washington, D.C. Shaw Neighborhood

Washington, D.C. – A shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning in the city’s Shaw neighborhood left two people dead and five others injured, according to local authorities.

The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. when gunfire erupted in the Shaw neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of two men and injuries to five adults, identified as five men and two women.

Law enforcement officials are now in search of a single suspect described as a man of average build wearing a blue shirt and light-colored pants, as reported by local CBS affiliate WUSA. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been disclosed by the police.

The shooting took place near the intersection of 7th Street NW and P Street NW, prompting investigators to urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation, said Executive Assistant Chief Jeffery Carroll during a press briefing.

This tragic event marks the 78th mass shooting in the U.S. so far this year, based on data from the Gun Violence Archive, which defines mass shootings as incidents where four or more individuals are wounded. The deadliest attack of 2024 occurred in January in the Chicago suburb of Joliet, where eight people were shot at three different locations by a lone gunman.
