Father forces his 11-year-old daughter to help him commit a home invasion then leaves her to get caught

DETROIT, MI – A 29-year-old Michigan man faces multiple charges following allegations that he not only perpetrated a home invasion and car theft but also involved his young daughter in the criminal activities.

Authorities apprehended Andre Stephon-Curtis Broadenax in connection with a break-in at the home of an unidentified 75-year-old Detroit man and the subsequent theft of a vehicle in Dearborn Heights.

The incident unfolded on April 30 at approximately 8:43 p.m., according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Allegedly, Broadenax was behind the wheel of the stolen car, accompanied by his 11-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors allege that Broadenax coerced his daughter into assisting with the burglary. As per dispatch records from that night, the elderly victim’s son arrived home to discover Broadenax, prompting the suspect to flee on foot. In his haste, Broadenax reportedly abandoned both the stolen vehicle and his daughter at the scene.

The Detroit police swiftly located and apprehended Broadenax shortly thereafter. He now faces several charges, including first-degree and second-degree home invasion, larceny, possession of a stolen vehicle, using a minor to commit a felony, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

During a hearing, the court increased Broadenax’s bond to $150,000. If he is released on bond, conditions stipulate that he must wear a monitoring device and remain under house arrest. His next court appearances are scheduled for a probable cause conference on May 14 and a preliminary examination on May 21.

Broadenax’s case raises serious concerns about child exploitation and the lengths to which some individuals might go to involve minors in illegal activities. The daughter’s involvement, though reportedly forced, adds a troubling dimension to the unfolding legal proceedings.

The Prosecutor’s Office has emphasized the gravity of the charges due to the involvement of the minor and remains steadfast in seeking justice for the elderly victim. Public safety remains a top priority as the case progresses through the judicial system.
