TOLEDO, OH – Two men from Ohio were found guilty Thursday for their roles in the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman who was just weeks away from giving birth, authorities said.
A Lucas County jury convicted Paris James, 37, and Jerry Scott, 28, on charges including aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, and tampering with evidence in the January death of 34-year-old Tameisha Price and her unborn daughter, Malaysia. Prosecutors said James and Scott orchestrated and carried out the attack inside Price’s home on Norton Place earlier this year.
Investigators revealed that James, who was believed to be the baby’s father, had been disputing paternity and had exchanged messages with Price urging her to terminate the pregnancy. Further messages indicated he had promised financial support if the child was born. Evidence presented at trial also detailed how James initially attempted to hire another individual to kill Price, resorting to Scott for help when that plan failed.
Price was eight months pregnant at the time she was shot and killed. According to prosecutors, after the murder, James and Scott attempted to dispose of the weapon in a nearby marsh. The gun was later recovered by a park ranger who assisted in the search.
James’ girlfriend, Shatwiya Triplett, is accused of misleading investigators by providing a false alibi for James during the time of the murder. She faces obstruction charges, with her case still pending in court.
Sentencing for both James and Scott is scheduled for July 28. Each faces the possibility of life in prison without the chance of parole.
Authorities expressed hope that the verdict might offer some comfort to Price’s family as they continue to grapple with her loss. Price, remembered by her loved ones as a devoted mother, daughter, and friend, leaves behind two sons, ages 16 and 13.
Community members have described Price as warm-hearted and deeply spiritual, emphasizing the positive influence she had on the lives around her.
The case has drawn attention throughout Ohio, highlighting concerns over domestic violence and violent crime in the region. As the investigation and legal proceedings continue for related individuals, family and friends continue to mourn the loss of both Price and her unborn child.
