MIAMI, FL – A Miami mother is facing serious charges after allegedly attacking her daughter with a metal guitar and a broomstick following a school pick-up incident that escalated into violence.
Sayda Orellana Castellanos, 52, was charged with aggravated battery and child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, according to a police report. Authorities were called to a domestic violence situation around 5 p.m. on a Monday in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, the report states.
The trouble began when Orellana Castellanos allegedly grew upset upon waiting more than 10 minutes for her daughter outside her school. Frustration reached a boiling point when she discovered the delay was due to her daughter conversing with boys, leading to a heated argument in the car.
As the confrontation continued at home, Orellana Castellanos allegedly verbally abused her daughter, calling her derogatory names. The argument turned violent when the daughter reportedly struck her mother in the face during their exchange.
In retaliation, Orellana Castellanos is accused of dragging her daughter by the hair into the hallway, hitting her repeatedly with her hands. The situation escalated further when she allegedly picked up a metal guitar and struck her daughter multiple times, causing severe injuries.
The violence continued with Orellana Castellanos reportedly using a broomstick, which she broke over her daughter in the assault. A sister of the victim filmed the incident, capturing evidence that substantiated the victim’s claims, according to police.
The daughter sustained various injuries, including facial lacerations, a bruised eyelid, and other marks on her back. The physical harm was described by authorities as likely to result in permanent disfigurement.
Emergency medical personnel treated the girl’s injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, police apprehended Orellana Castellanos, who was subsequently held at Miami-Dade County jail before posting a $3,500 bond. Her court appearance is arranged for March 5.
