Florida toddler’s teeth knocked out by mom’s boyfriend who held her nose closed with tweezers when she cried

MILTON, FL – A Florida woman and her boyfriend are facing serious charges following an investigation into severe injuries sustained by a young girl, highlighting a disturbing case of alleged child abuse. Authorities arrested Jordan Moore, 28, on child neglect charges, and Jesse Smith, 29, on aggravated child abuse charges after a hospital visit revealed the toddler had multiple injuries, including fractures and bruising.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office initiated their investigation on January 8 when the toddler, whose age remains undisclosed, was admitted with alarming injuries. These injuries, in varying stages of healing, suggested a pattern of abuse, according to an arrest affidavit.

Moore reportedly told investigators that her children had been with their father between December 27 and January 5. She claimed she noticed only minor cuts but did not initially suspect serious harm. Investigators believe that the abuse may have occurred under Smith’s care. During questioning, Moore denied her boyfriend’s involvement in the injuries, suggesting a medical condition known as “Brittle Bone Disease” was to blame. However, medical tests for the condition returned negative results.

Contradicting Moore’s statements were text messages allegedly exchanged between her and Smith. One message from Moore accused Smith of deliberately hurting the child, describing an incident where he supposedly banged the toddler’s head and displayed disdain toward her children.

Additionally, a family member connected to the Department of Children and Families voiced concerns about the girl’s condition. According to the affidavit, this relative noted alarming injuries when the child visited him and expressed fears of escalating abuse. Despite pleading to care for the child, Moore attributed the girl’s injuries to falls and insect bites, resisting the suggestion.

Smith denied any abuse, stating that interactions with the child were innocuous. However, a sibling’s account painted a darker picture, alleging Smith used tweezers to pinch the toddler’s nose and cover her mouth when she cried.

The culmination of the investigation led to the pair’s arrests on March 1, with formal charges filed on March 10. Smith remains in custody at Santa Rosa County Jail with a bond set at $300,000, while Moore has been released on bond. Both are slated to appear in court on March 27.

The incident underscores the critical nature of vigilance and intervention in suspected child abuse cases as authorities work to ensure the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable.
