Former Texas mayor and her husband are stabbed inside her home by their 23-year-old grandson

LEWISVILLE, TX – A prominent Texas figure in politics survived a violent encounter while her husband tragically did not. Early Monday morning, Bobbie J. Mitchell, a Denton County commissioner, and her husband, Fred Mitchell, were attacked in their home, resulting in Fred’s death.

The alleged assailant in this heartbreaking event was their 23-year-old grandson, Mitchell Blake Reinacher, who has since been detained on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities were alerted to the distressing situation after receiving reports of an assault in motion at the couple’s residence in Lewisville, a suburb northwest of Dallas. Police Chief Brook Rollins shared that responding officers, upon arrival, heard screams from inside and quickly intervened, leading to Reincacher’s arrest at the scene.

Emergency crews discovered both Bobbie and Fred Mitchell suffering from severe stab wounds. Although Bobbie Mitchell was swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility and is reported to be in stable condition, her husband succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival at the hospital.

Investigators in Lewisville are currently piecing together the events that led to the attack while the community grapples with the tragedy. “We are deeply saddened by the loss,” said Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore, expressing hope for Bobbie’s recovery and calling for community support during this difficult time. “This is a moment for the community to come together and offer strength.”

Bobbie Mitchell is not only a respected county commissioner but also a historical figure in local governance. In 1993, she broke barriers as the first Black mayor of Lewisville, a role she fulfilled until she transitioned to become a county commissioner in 2000. Her contributions to public service and community development over the years have left a lasting impact.

The accused, Reinacher, lived with his grandparents, adding a layer of complexity to the case as authorities seek to uncover a motive. As of now, he remains in custody at the Lewisville jail. Details about his legal representation or a forthcoming court date have not yet been disclosed. Furthermore, the official narrative surrounding the tragic events remains incomplete, with a probable cause affidavit still pending release.

As the investigation unfolds, the Lewisville community mourns the loss of Fred Mitchell while prayers for healing and recovery continue for Bobbie. The call to unity and support resonates strongly amidst the search for answers in a devastating family tragedy.
